Gosh, my first day back on the blog and I’m already misleading you…let me clarify, I don’t need a copywriter – but maybe you do. Maybe you’ve decided to re-vamp your website, or perhaps you’re creating your website from scratch after relying on job boards or the Yellow Pages so far (if it’s the latter, I’d also like to officially welcome you to the 21st century…and maybe the 20th.) You might feel like you don’t know where to start, or you do, but then it sounds all wrong. Whatever you write may seem boastful or *whispers* boring. That’s okay. We’ll go through it together. When I say “edit your content” to translators, their minds naturally go to looking for mistakes, or trying to perfect something. But what I actually mean when I say edit your content is something a bit different. How has 2017 been for you so far? Have you been rushed off your feet with new clients? Or enjoying a leisurely easing back into working after the holiday season? Maybe you’ve been busy planning for the year ahead. Lots of colleagues I know fall into that last category – myself included. I’ve had several new projects, but mostly I’ve been using my time to work out my goals and plans for the coming year, and figuring out how I’m going to achieve everything I want. Read More

Linkedin can be pushed down the priority list for freelancers. I often hear colleagues say that a Linkedin profile is “for employees” or “jobseekers” and not for self-employed individuals who are looking for clients, rather than cushy 9-5s.

I don’t agree.

Linkedin, when used correctly, can actually be an extension of your website, providing information that you perhaps won’t include there, and, contrary to popular belief, can be customised considerably; giving it your personal touch. You’ll notice I said it’s an extension of your website, not an extension of your CV. Read More
